Blackbird (M-21) content below, plus some extra goodies.
The M-21 was a variant of the A-12 that launched a faster, higher flying drone (D-21) off its back.
They had an old 707 Air Force one that was used by Eisenhower and Kennedy. Here’s JFK’s shitter
A Russian Resurs 500 space capsule from 1992
SR-71 cockpit (to be clear — not from the same aircraft pictured above). No lie, it’s probably got way more leg room than that Aerocar. I’m 6'3" and fit with plenty of room to spare. Wasn’t wearing a space suit though...
This Huey sparked a wonderful conversation with my grandfather, who spent a lot of time riding on these in Vietnam. He was shot down twice

Man, that was a real pain in the neck to type up on mobile.

Awesome pictures. But I came here hoping you’d have information about testing the ground speed of the Blackbird. It’s a question that has weighed heavily on my mind for years.

It was close to 1900. Our equipment is better than ground control’s.

Was the cockpit just a cockpit or did you get to sit in the actual plane? I'm jealous either way, but one way would make me more jealous.

Just a cockpit. Sorry, but I guess you’ll have to direct your burning jealousy somewhere else.

Sigh... I could have gone here instead of the Museum of History & Industry. Instead, I paid $20 to sit on a bench for an hour.

Was it a nice bench?

Eh. Could have used a better cushion.
Hopefully I’ll have a job up there by the fall and can take the kids before they start school.

I’m from St. Louis, but I really want to move out there in a couple of years after my career has progressed a bit further. I'm in love with that area

Ditto. What kind of work do you do?

I'm a geospatial analyst. I've been working in the defense realm so far, but it's a pretty broad career field and that's only one side of it.
